Taylor Swift has won Video of the Year at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards for “The Fate of Ophelia”, adding to a landmark night that saw her become the most-awarded artist in the history of the VMAs.
Swift also won Best Direction for “Opalite” and received the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, bringing her haul at the ceremony to three awards. The special honour recognises artists whose work behind the camera has expanded music-video storytelling; Swift has been involved in making about 60 music videos, writing and directing 18 of them.
Her three wins took her career total to 33 MTV VMA awards, moving her past Beyoncé, who had previously been tied with Swift at 30 awards. Swift now holds the record for the most VMA wins by an artist.
Accepting Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia”, Swift dedicated the award to the late Dolly Parton, whom she described as the “ultimate showgirl”. “The Fate of Ophelia” is from Swift’s album The Life of a Showgirl.
The achievement adds another chapter to Swift’s long VMA history, which began with her first win in 2009. Her latest record came at a ceremony where Madonna led the overall night with seven awards, while LISA, BTS and other major artists also collected honours.
