Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku has been ruled out of Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations Group C qualifier against The Gambia after suffering an injury in the team’s opening match against Côte d’Ivoire.

Djiku, who captained Ghana in the 2-0 defeat to the Elephants in Bouaké on Thursday, was forced off in the 71st minute after picking up the injury.

The defender has since returned to his club, Spartak Moscow, for further assessment and will miss Tuesday’s fixture.

The 31-year-old’s absence leaves coach Carlos Queiroz with another defensive concern as the Black Stars seek to recover from their opening-day defeat and secure their first points in Group C.

Ghana will host The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 29, at 4:00pm, with the Black Stars looking to get their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign back on track.
