The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) generated US$1.871 billion in foreign exchange from its artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) gold trading operations in September 2026, exceeding its monthly target by US$471 million.

GoldBod had set a September target of US$1.4 billion. The latest figure represents about 134 per cent of that target.

Of the total foreign exchange generated, US$701.3 million was sold to authorised commercial banks, slightly exceeding the US$700 million target set to support stability in the foreign exchange market.

A further US$1.17 billion was provided to the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to support the accumulation of the country’s foreign exchange reserves. The amount significantly exceeded the US$700 million target for the month.

The transactions form part of GoldBod’s statutory mandate under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), to generate foreign exchange through its gold trading operations.

GoldBod also announced a US$1.5 billion foreign exchange generation target for October 2026.

Under the October plan, US$1 billion is expected to be made available to authorised commercial banks, while up to US$500 million is projected to go to the Bank of Ghana for reserve accumulation under the Ghana Accelerated National Reserves Accumulation Programme (GANRAP).

GoldBod said the October sales would be conducted under its new Spot FX Sales/Intermediation Framework, which is intended to strengthen transparency, fairness and regulatory compliance in foreign exchange sales.
