The Ghana Police Service has postponed the full implementation of its automated traffic enforcement system, TRAFFITECH-GH, from October 1 to November 1, 2026.

The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) said the additional month will be used for more extensive public education and sensitisation before enforcement begins.

The education campaign will explain how the system operates, the traffic offences it will detect and how Electronic Notices of Violation (ENV) will be issued to motorists who breach traffic regulations.

TRAFFITECH-GH uses technologies including radar, high-tech cameras, sensors and Personal Data Assistant devices to detect traffic violations such as speeding and running red lights.

The Police Service says footage captured by the system will be reviewed by personnel before a violation is confirmed. Where a driver or rider is found culpable, an Electronic Notice of Violation will be sent to the vehicle owner by SMS, including details of the offence and applicable fine.

The system is intended to complement, rather than replace, conventional traffic enforcement by police officers and forms part of efforts to improve compliance with road traffic laws and reduce road crashes.

The Police Service has urged motorists, drivers and vehicle owners to use the additional month to familiarise themselves with the system ahead of the new November 1 implementation date.
