The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected a new team of national executives following an extensive delegates conference and electoral process held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The election, held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, formed part of the party’s internal reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general election, with 7,163 delegates expected to participate in the exercise.

The National Delegates Conference was held in two parts, beginning with consideration of proposed amendments to portions of the party’s constitution before delegates proceeded to vote for national officers.

The Electoral Commission supervised the election, with voting taking place across 31 polling centres established within the stadium. The final ballot featured 46 candidates contesting nine national executive positions, with the three successful candidates in the Vice-Chairperson race taking up the First, Second and Third Vice-Chairperson positions.

Former General Secretary John Boadu emerged as the new National Chairman after securing 2,888 votes, representing about 47.1 per cent of the 6,127 votes recorded in the chairmanship contest.

He defeated former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, who polled 2,408 votes, representing about 39.3 per cent, while former National Chairman Paul Afoko obtained 790 votes. Sammy Crabbe received 41 votes.

In the General Secretary race, incumbent Justin Frimpong Kodua retained his position with 4,486 votes, representing about 73.3 per cent of the 6,117 votes recorded.

He was followed by Sylvester Tetteh, who obtained 1,340 votes, while Eugene Boakye Antwi and Dr Charles Dwamena polled 162 and 129 votes respectively.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye was elected National Communications Director, succeeding Richard Ahiagbah. He was the sole candidate for the position after the withdrawal of his contender, Evans Kodom, and was therefore elected unopposed.

Former Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson also secured the position of National Women’s Organiser, polling 783 votes, representing about 64.6 per cent of the 1,212 votes recorded.

She defeated Hajia Safia Mohammed, who obtained 429 votes. I
