The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has directed the immediate suspension of the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Zakaria Abdulai, over allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student.
The directive requires the Ghana Education Service (GES) to suspend the headmaster pending a full investigation into the allegations, which were brought to public attention through a media report.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the Ministry of Education said the minister considered the matter serious and had instructed the GES Director-General to take immediate steps to implement the suspension.
Mr Iddrisu has also requested the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to commence investigations.
The ministry stressed that teachers and school authorities have a responsibility to protect students entrusted to their care and said alleged misconduct of this nature would not be tolerated in educational institutions.
It also reaffirmed the need for schools and education authorities to safeguard students and ensure that their learning environments remain safe.
The suspension is intended to allow investigations to proceed while the headmaster is removed from his position.
The allegations have not yet been established, and the outcome of the investigations is expected to determine the facts of the case and any further action.
