The University of Ghana (UG) has directed undergraduate students who finish the 2025/2026 academic year with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 to withdraw from their programmes, citing the university’s academic regulations.

The directive was announced by the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate in a notice issued on Thursday, October 22, 2026. It is based on Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which sets out the minimum academic requirements students must meet to progress to the next level.

Under the regulation, students must obtain a CGPA of at least 1.00 and satisfy the requirements of their respective schools or departments to qualify for academic progression. The university says the regulation makes no provision for probation for students who fall below the stipulated threshold.

The withdrawal requirement applies after all grades for courses registered during the 2025/2026 academic year have been released.

How affected students should proceed

The university has instructed affected students to check their CGPAs on the Management Information System (MIS Web) and log in to the Student and Staff Portal at sts.ug.edu.gh/services using their student ID and PIN.

They must then select the “Withdrawal Request” option to initiate the process. For certain programmes, the relevant school or department will handle the withdrawal process on behalf of affected students.

Students who need clarification have been advised to contact their respective College Academic Offices. The university’s Careers and Counselling Directorate is also available to provide support and guidance.

The directive reinforces the university’s existing academic progression rules, which require undergraduate students to maintain the minimum CGPA and meet departmental requirements to remain eligible to continue their studies.
