The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has supplied emergency water to residents of Chemuenaa in the Ablekuma South Sub-Metropolitan District following persistent difficulties accessing water in the community.

The intervention, directed by Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey, is intended to provide immediate relief while the Assembly prepares to drill two boreholes to establish a more sustainable source of water for residents.

The emergency supply follows an assurance by the Mayor during a Community Dialogue on Social Protection and Social Issues organised by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection at Saban Park, Chemuenaa Last Stop, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

During the dialogue, residents raised concerns about difficulties in accessing water. Mr Allotey subsequently asked community leaders and residents to identify suitable locations for the proposed boreholes to allow the Assembly to conduct the necessary assessments and begin work.

The two boreholes are expected to improve access to water and reduce the challenges residents face in securing reliable supplies.

The community dialogue formed part of the Ministry’s National Social Protection programme, which brings government officials and residents together to discuss social protection interventions and challenges affecting communities at the grassroots.
