Russian forces launched a large-scale overnight missile and drone attack across Ukraine on Thursday, September 17, injuring more than 20 people and damaging residential, industrial and critical infrastructure in several regions, Ukrainian officials said.
The heaviest damage was reported in Kyiv, where multiple explosions were recorded during the night. At least 18 people were injured, including two children, while buildings and other infrastructure were damaged across four districts of the capital.
The strikes damaged warehouses, office buildings, residential properties and vehicles, while a higher education facility also suffered damage. A building belonging to Kyiv’s water utility was hit, temporarily affecting water supply in parts of the city before services were restored.
The Kyiv region surrounding the capital also came under attack, with 33 facilities reported damaged, including private homes, warehouses, production facilities and vehicles. No casualties were reported in the region.
In Odesa, seven people were injured, including two children, after Russian drones struck parts of the city and region. One drone hit a high-rise residential building, damaging 10 apartments and 11 vehicles, while other strikes affected homes, a kindergarten, a dormitory, warehouses and other structures.
A Russian missile strike on Zaporizhzhia also injured three people and damaged industrial facilities, with fires reported at one of the sites. Critical infrastructure in Kropyvnytskyi was also targeted, while parts of Konotop in Sumy Region temporarily lost water supply following the attacks.
Ukraine’s air force said the overnight assault involved ballistic and cruise missiles, drones and decoys, with more than 130 aerial threats intercepted or neutralised around Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia and Odesa, according to Ukrainian authorities.
