Black Stars defender Baba Rahman has withdrawn from Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after suffering a knee injury.
The PAOK defender is expected to spend about two weeks on the sidelines, ruling him out of Ghana’s opening qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
Rahman was part of Carlos Queiroz’s original 24-man squad announced on September 18, having returned to the national team after being recalled earlier this year.
The 32-year-old left-back was selected after an impressive 2025/26 season with Greek side PAOK, where he made 35 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing three assists, according to the Ghana News Agency.
His latest injury leaves Queiroz with another defensive concern just as Ghana prepares for the start of the AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars have already made several changes to the squad because of injuries and medical uncertainties.
The Ghana Football Association has added Jonas Adjetey, Alidu Seidu, Ebenezer Annan and Rockson Yeboah to the defence, alongside midfielder Rahim Ibrahim and forwards Brandon Thomas-Asante, Mohammed Fuseini, Benjamin Tetteh and Felix Afena-Gyan.Ghana will face Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24 before returning home to play The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29.
The team will then travel to Tangier for a friendly against Morocco on October 4.
