Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has withdrawn from England’s squad because of a muscle injury, ruling him out of the team’s upcoming Nations League fixtures.
The 24-year-old was recalled to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad after being left out of the country’s 2026 World Cup squad, but has now returned to Chelsea for treatment.
The Football Association confirmed Palmer was among five players who withdrew from the squad because of injuries.
Palmer played the full 90 minutes in Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat to Brentford on September 18 and had started the season strongly, registering four goals and two assists in seven appearances.
His withdrawal comes just days after his return to Tuchel’s plans.Palmer will miss England’s Nations League fixtures against Spain, the Czech Republic and Croatia. Everton midfielder James Garner and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White have been called up as replacements.
The latest injury is another setback for Palmer, who spent much of last season managing fitness problems before being left out of England’s World Cup squad.
