West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez has denied any involvement in the alleged kidnapping of Mexican film producer Juan José López Ordóñez, after his name was linked to the case in Mexican media.

López Ordóñez had publicly accused Alvarez and members of his former partner’s family of being connected to an alleged kidnapping in Mexico City in November 2024.

The producer claimed the dispute stemmed partly from an unpaid 3.5 million Mexican peso bill relating to a documentary about Alvarez, as well as a separate property dispute. These allegations have not been established in court.

In a statement released on social media, Alvarez categorically rejected any connection to the alleged crime and said there was no evidence supporting claims that he was involved.

He said serious allegations should be presented to the police, prosecutors and courts rather than through media statements, and announced that his legal team would consider action against anyone spreading what he described as false allegations.

“I have nothing to do with the events being reported,” Alvarez said.

The Mexico international also rejected attempts to link him to the matter through his former partner’s father, saying he would not comment on allegations involving third parties.

The controversy relates to claims made by López Ordóñez, who said he had worked for about two years on a documentary about Alvarez’s career. He alleged that the project was never completed and that he had not received the agreed payment.

Alvarez, who captained Mexico at the 2026 World Cup, joined West Ham from Ajax in 2023 and has made 74 appearances for the English club.

There has been no reported finding establishing Alvarez’s involvement in the alleged kidnapping.
