The Ministry of Finance has clarified that all 6,300 Ghana Education Service (GES) staff recruited in 2024 without financial clearance have been paid, following concerns over outstanding salary arrears.
The clarification comes after the Coalition of Unpaid Newly Posted Staff of the GES appealed for the payment of salary arrears owed to some teachers recruited during the 2024 exercise.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the Finance Ministry said the government inherited the 6,300 staff in 2025 without the required financial clearance.
To address their salary payment concerns, the Ministry said it subsequently secured Cabinet approval and issued the required financial clearance for payment in four tranches.
The Ministry has now confirmed that all 6,300 staff covered by the arrangement have been paid.

It further stated that there are no outstanding requests for financial clearance from the GES awaiting action by the Ministry of Finance.
The Finance Ministry’s clarification follows a separate statement from the GES announcing the establishment of a dedicated Help Desk at its headquarters to address unresolved salary and arrears concerns among teachers recruited in 2024.
While the GES said its records indicate that salaries and arrears due to the affected group had been processed, it acknowledged that some individual cases may still require verification and resolution.
Affected teachers with unresolved concerns have therefore been directed to report to Room 305 at the GES Headquarters with relevant supporting documents.
The Finance Ministry, however, said staff members who continue to have salary or arrears issues should contact the GES for assistance with the relevant payroll or administrative matters
