Five agricultural colleges in Ghana have received modern digital farming equipment to strengthen practical training in precision agriculture and prepare students for a more technology-driven agricultural sector.

The equipment was handed over on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Kwadaso Agricultural College in Kumasi under a partnership between the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The beneficiary institutions are Kwadaso, Wenchi, Ejura, Damongo and Ohawu Agricultural Colleges.

The equipment includes mini drones, soil testers, moisture meters, weather stations, GPS devices, Internet of Things (IoT) sensor kits, computers, greenhouse control kits, agricultural software and simulators.

The technology is expected to give students and tutors hands-on experience in precision farming, farm monitoring, soil assessment and data-driven decision-making.

Speaking at the handover, Minister for Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku said the intervention would help equip young people with the knowledge and skills required to respond to the changing demands of agriculture.

The initiative will also include training for instructors and tutors, while students will receive practical training in digital agriculture and digital agribusiness.

The partnership is intended to strengthen the link between agricultural education and modern farming practices, as Ghana seeks to improve productivity and develop a workforce capable of using technology and data across the agricultural value chain.

The beneficiary colleges are expected to use the equipment to enhance practical instruction and build the digital competencies of graduates who will enter farming, agribusiness and related areas of the agricultural sector.
