Ghana’s Seth “Freezy MacBones” Gyimah has defeated Nigeria’s Godday “Zodsolo” Appah to become the new World Boxing Organization (WBO) Africa Light Heavyweight champion.
Gyimah secured the title on points in a fiercely contested bout in Lagos on Thursday, October 1, dethroning the defending champion as part of Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations.
The 37-year-old, who only began his professional boxing career at 27, has now added a major continental title to his record.
After the victory, Gyimah thanked his supporters in Ghana and abroad, saying he was delighted to win the title in front of Nigerian fans. He has already accepted a challenge for another fight in December.
