The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has given residents, traders, artisans and drivers operating within its high-voltage transmission corridor at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region 30 days to vacate the area.

The directive is intended to clear encroachments within the transmission corridor and protect people and infrastructure from the risks associated with activities carried out beneath high-voltage power lines.

GRIDCo said persons occupying or conducting business within the affected corridor are required to leave within the 30-day period to allow the company to secure the transmission infrastructure and maintain the required safety clearance.

The company has repeatedly warned that unauthorised development and commercial activities within transmission corridors expose occupants to potentially serious electrical hazards and can interfere with the safe operation and maintenance of the national transmission network.

The affected persons at Ejisu include residents, traders, artisans and drivers who use portions of the corridor for residential, commercial and other activities.

GRIDCo is expected to take further enforcement action against persons who fail to comply with the directive after the expiration of the 30-day notice.
