The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the abduction of Ayuba Sumiya Mawudu, alias Haruna, at Dobini Bunban near Yendi in the Northern Region.

The suspects, identified as Mahumudu Abdulai, 32, Ganiu Sumaila, 32, and Abdulai Salam, 28, were arrested at separate locations in Sang in the Mion District on September 29, 2026.

According to the Police, the victim was abducted on September 25 by four armed men who attacked him and his brother at their residence. The abductors later contacted the victim’s family and demanded GH¢100,000 for his release.

Police said Mawudu eventually escaped from his captors and was assisted to safety by some farmers in Sambu before being taken to a clinic for medical attention.

When investigators later engaged him at the facility, the victim reportedly told them he had been taken to an undisclosed location and kept under guard by armed men before escaping.

Police said the victim subsequently identified all three arrested suspects from photographs shown to him during the investigation.

Preliminary investigations have also linked the suspects to other robbery incidents in the area, the Police said.

The three suspects remain in Police custody and are assisting with investigations as efforts continue to arrest the remaining accomplices and establish the full circumstances surrounding the abduction.
