The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged murder of an 11-year-old girl, Blessing Innocent, at Gomoa Buduburam in the Central Region.
The suspects are Kingsley Ozor, 40, an autobody sprayer, and his 19-year-old apprentice, Jeffery Otaigbe. Police said the two were arrested on October 20 following investigations into the girl’s disappearance.
According to a police statement dated October 21, the girl’s mother reported her missing to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Gomoa Buduburam District Police on October 19, saying she had been missing since October 17.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Blessing had visited the two suspects, who were neighbours, at about 8:30 a.m. on the day she disappeared.
Police said further investigations led to the recovery of the girl’s body from beneath shrubs after Otaigbe allegedly led investigators to the location.
The statement alleged that Otaigbe lured the girl to an unfinished building near an estate community, where he sexually assaulted her. Police said both suspects admitted the girl had been with them that day during interrogation.
The body was conveyed to St Gregory Catholic Hospital’s mortuary, while arrangements were being made for an autopsy at the Police Hospital.
Both suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
