The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) of Zambia has approved 33 licences and three construction permits for investments valued at ZMW1.0 billion (about US$50.9 million) across the petroleum, renewable energy and electricity sectors.
The approvals were granted at the ERB Licensing Committee meeting on September 11, 2026, as part of efforts to expand energy infrastructure and improve access to petroleum and renewable energy services.
The licences include 13 approvals for the petroleum sub-sector, covering transportation, importation, storage, packaging, blending, distribution and exportation of petroleum products, as well as the retail of petroleum products.
The Board also approved construction permits for three petroleum retail service stations and a licence for the operation of one newly acquired service station.
In addition, 42 road tank vehicles were approved to enhance the transportation and distribution of petroleum products across Zambia.
The ERB also approved eight renewable energy licences covering the manufacture, supply, installation and maintenance of renewable energy generating equipment.
The approvals further included one electricity-sector licence for the generation, distribution and supply of electricity, supporting investment in electricity services and infrastructure.

The Board said the approvals reflected its commitment to improving investment confidence in Zambia’s energy sector while ensuring efficient, transparent and timely licensing.
The latest approvals are expected to support continued investment and expansion across Zambia’s energy sector.
